Shatin (沙田) is located in New Territories along the riverbank of the Shing Mun River. Shatin is the biggest of Hong Kong’s New Town projects that was started in the 1970s in a bid to try and absorb Hong Kong's swelling population. Sha Tin is one of the most populous cities in New Territories and is mainly known for many of its large residential public housing estates. Notable places include the New Town Plaza, the largest racecourse in Hong Kong and the arguably one of the best Hong Kong Museums - the Hong Kong Heritage Museum.
