Mui Wo (梅窩) is a sub-district located in South East Lantau Island, just one bay down from Discovery Bay. The bay area of Mui Wo is a good balance between a relaxed beach town area and a more thriving urbanised city centre. Transport from Hong Kong Island is convenient - you can catch ferries from Central Pier 6 to Mui Wo. Fast ferries take around 35–40 minutes whereas the slower ferries usually take around 50–55 minutes. Land transport from Mui Wo to Tung Chung MTR station takes about an hour and a half, or 1 hour 45 mins to the Hong Kong International airport. Property prices in the area have been sluggish in Mui Wo, especially compared to other parts of wider Hong Kong. But the proposal for a new large-scale land reclamation project in the vicinity could change this. 'Lantau Tomorrow Vision' is a somewhat controversial proposal to create a new 1,700-hectare business district from artificially constructed islands and through major land reclamation near Kau Yi Chau and Hei Ling Chau. Even if this huge development project gets the green light to go ahead, it will be a few years yet before anything starts to happen. Other notable places of interest in the Silvermine waterfalls, remnants of an old silver mine (now a bat cave), and Man Mo Temple.
