Fo Tan

Fo Tan (火炭) is a sub-district located in the Shatin District in New Territories and home to the A.S.Watson Group head office. Fo Tan was originally developed as an industrial district but it has become more popular as a residential area in recent years after the use of buildings for industrial purposes started declining from the early 2000s. Fo Tan has developed a budding artistic community and many graduates from the nearby Chinese University of Hong Kong are attracted to the area by the larger studio spaces and the cheaper rents. The area offers great views of the surrounding Fo Tan Mountainside and convenient transport links to City One Shatin and Ma On Shan. Fo Tan includes the Sui Wo Court public housing estate and the following private housing estates: Royal Ascot, Jubilee Garden, Scenery Garden, Shatin 33, The Grandville, and The Palazzo. There are 24 Hakka Villages in the area too.
