Quarry Bay (鰂魚涌) is an area beneath Mount Parker in the Eastern District of Hong Kong Island. It is characterised by a mix of old and new industrial and residential buildings, but over the years it has seen a sharp increase in contemporary architecture - mainly commercial buildings and some industrial buildings located in the Shipyard Lane area. The area is also being described as one of the new up-and-coming business districts after it has seen an increase in commercial tenants setting up offices there, having relocated from Central Hong Kong. Some real estate agents are even describing Quarry Bay as akin to London's Canary wharf some 20 years ago. Quarry Bay is also home to the ‘Monster Building’ (Yick Cheong Building, also known as 'Montane Mansion'), which is a local nickname for five interconnected towers built in the 1960s and one of the most Instagrammed buildings in Hong Kong. Quarry Bay also has a number of parks and recreational facilities including the Quarry Bay Park and the Quarry Bay Municipal Services Building as well as a good selection of great restaurants, hip bars and trendy cafes. It is serviced by the blue Island line, less than 25 minutes to Central via MTR, and the purple Tseung Kwan O Line, only 11 minutes to Yau Tong Station.
